Literacy Practices:
Every cultural group has their own way to communicate among each other. The population that I studied were the student workers at the Recreation center. They all are their for one purpose to help and serve other students entering the facilities to exercise and maybe even for sports. They are all exercise science majors and study the right ways to exercise. They may sit there and talk about different work out routines and different muscles that it would effect but to an average person that may not make sense. They know how to train and work with other people to reach their physical goals. In this culture the students recognize the meaning behind each exercise machine and know how to work them. The way that these students interact with other students may just be in a social way, friendly and helpful. When I was there, the student workers seem to of grown to be friends with each other. Also something else that is a literacy practice of this group may be the pictures and instructions of how to preform a certain work out. Another thing that was dominate in my interviews with this group was that they themselves work out and exercise. This shows that this culture doesn't only work here they also believe that what they're doing is important to their personal beings. These pictures show how organized they seem to be and how this organization may follow them out into their school life and/or personal lives. Also the one picture with the students in it shows them working together and discussing things as a group. Outside of this cultural group they have normal college student lives with class, eating, and hanging out.
